- עֲלִילm. (b. h.; עָלַל) 1) entrance. Sot.45a; Y. ib. IX, 23c bot. נמצא בע׳ לעיר if the slain was found at the entrance to a town (where there can be no doubt as to the nearest place); Tosef. ib. IX, 1 בע׳ העיר (Var. בחלול של עיר). 2) (cmp. עֲלִילוּת) reality; בע׳ really, undoubtedly. R. Hash. I, 5 נראה בע׳ if the crescent is clearly visible; ib. 21b מאי משמע דהאי ע׳ לישנא דמיגלי הוא, v. גְּלֵי; Sabb.133b; Men.64a.
